Hot Tub

Our therapeutic Jacuzzi style hot tub provides lots of fun and splashes for our members. They are able to relax in the water allowing body movements and muscle relaxation. The hot tub provides health benefits for our members also allowing them to stretch out, change position and enjoy freedom.

Some members have specially adapted exercise programmes from our physiotherapists to do in the hot tub.

We have special hoists and slings to enable each member to enter the hot tub as safely as possible. (And adapted shower aids afterwards)

Multi-Sensory Room

Our multi-sensory room provides our members with a therapeutic room to relax and be able to be out of their chairs. This gives them the opportunity to stretch out and enjoy a change in position. It provides soothing music, aromatherapy, lighting therapy and tactile experiences. Every element in the room is helpful to different members in aiding them to relax or enjoy individual quality time. Our members have each been assessed by the occupational therapist and physiotherapists for an up to date exercise programme to reduce further muscle tightening.

Each session has our staff in the room at all times; we have a water bed and vibration bed with different large bean bags for different experiences and positioning. The room is specially adapted for hoist use so all facilities are in full use.

Ball Pool

Our recent addition is the ball pool, specially designed for hoists to go underneath for positioning. The ball pool offers fun for our members to be able to move around and allows fun and games.

Computer Room

Our up to date specially adapted computer room offers a wide range of facilities to promote independence and allow full use of a computer adapted to individual needs.

We have computer tables adjustable with the press of a button; special keyboards with big keys and colour co-ordination; different types of equipment equivalent to a mouse; and Dragon speech recognition software which helps members to talk into the computer so that it writes for them. Each member has their own log-in to the computer so they can build a file of all their own work.

They are able to do personal projects and use the Internet, also being able to use e-mail to communicate with friends or when in need of information. Most of our members cannot write with pen and paper – e-mails allow normal communication and give a huge boost to self-esteem and confidence. Therapeutic benefits result from the eye/hand co-ordination achieved almost unconsciously.

We have lots of volunteers who come in and work one-to-one with members in improving skills and also to have some fun with computer games such as ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’.

Our main aim is for members to feel a real sense of achievement in here.
